BARDD
PLANT CYMRU (Children's Poet Laureate)
Bardd Plant Cymru is a venture established by Planed
Plant, S4C, the Welsh Books Council and Urdd Gobaith
Cymru, and recently the Academi became part of the partnership.
The main aim is to raise the profile of poetry amongst
children and to encourage them to compose and enjoy
poetry.

CHILDREN'S POET LAUREATE
On 27 May 2008, Caryl Parry Jones announced from the stage of Conwy's Urdd Gobaith Cymru National Eisteddfod, that Wales' Children's Poet Laureate 20087–2009 is Ifor ap Glyn from Caernarfon.

CHILDREN'S POET LAUREATE
On
Tuesday, 29 May, during a ceremony at the Urdd Youth
Eisteddfod, Carmarthen, it was announced that Caryl
Parry Jones is the Welsh-language Children's Poet
Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) for 2007–2008. Caryl
will hold poetry workshops in schools throughout Wales,
as well as e-mail workshops, during the year.

(Bardd Plant Cymru) for 2006–2007.

Mererid Hopwood was the Welsh-language Children's
Poet Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) for 2005–2006.

2004–2005
Tudur Dylan Jones was the Welsh-language Children's
Poet Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) for 20045–2005.
He visited schools during his term of office as well
as helping children to create poetry through electronic
workshops.

Ceri Wyn Jones was the Welsh-language Children's
Poet Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) for 2003–2004.
Ceri visited schools throughout Wales as well as hosting
on-line poetry workshops. Amongst the year's highlights
was the weekend workshop held at the Urdd's Centre at
Pentre Ifan, Pembrokeshire, with children from Ysgol Gynradd
Gymraeg Tyle'r Ynn, Briton Ferry. |

CHILDREN'S
POET LAUREATE 2002–2003
Menna Elfyn was the Welsh-language Children's Poet
Laureate (Bardd Plant Cymru) for 2002–2003. During
the year she composed poems on particular themes, in
addition to visiting schools throughout Wales to hold
poetry workshops with pupils. A volume of poems
created during the year by Menna and young poets
from across Wales was published under the title Caneri
Pinc ar Dywod Euraid.

CHILDREN'S
POET LAUREATE 2001–2002
Mei Mac (Meirion MacIntyre Huws) was the
Welsh-language Children's Poet Laureate for 2001.
During the year he visited schools throughout Wales
to encourage children to write poetry. To celebrate
St David's Day 2001 he composed the poem Y
Pethau Bychain'. A volume of poems created
during the year by Mei Mac and budding poets from across
Wales was published under the title Rhedeg Ras Dan
Awyr Las.

CHILDREN'S
POET LAUREATE 2000
Myrddin ap Dafydd was the first to hold the honorary title
of Bardd Plant Cymru (Children's Poet Laureate).
During his twelve months in office, he held numerous workshops
in schools throughout Wales and one at the Millennium
Stadium. During the year he composed many poems and these
were published in Jam Coch mewn Pwdin Reis, the
poems of Bardd Plant Cymru 2000 and the work of young
poets from Wales.
