The Editorial Department provides services to publishers and authors in Wales and deals with approximately 200 manuscripts annually, in both English and Welsh. We accept only material in the field of reading for leisure, and we do not deal with educational material of any kind.

Services to Publishers

We offer publishers an editorial service in both English and Welsh, e.e. final editing of typescripts and correction of proofs. The Department provides these services for some 20 publishers, with the help of a small team of experienced external editors and readers as required.

Services to Authors

We offer authors a manuscript assessment service. Any Wales-based authors who wish to obtain advice regarding their work are welcome to contact the Editorial Department and an independent reader’s report can be arranged, free of charge. We always endeavour to select an appropriate external reader who will provide a fair and constructive report.

Authors may prefer to contact publishers directly, and on the gwales.com website it is possible to access a list of all publishers in Wales. Go to Links on the Home Page > Welsh Book Trade Info > Publishers.

Courses

Occasionally, editing and proofreading courses are arranged, in conjunction with other professional bodies, as required.

As we benefit on a regular basis from the services of dependable freelance editors, proofreaders and readers, those who have relevant experience in any of these fields are welcome to contact us.
